ABOUT THE PROJECT

DollyandFriends.png

Led by Marianne Rothschild, The Crossing Machine joins forces with vocalist Debbi Arpini to celebrate the incredible catalogue of Country superstar Dolly Parton. Born from a conversation between two very different performers with a shared passion for the mastery of Dolly's songwriting and storytelling, this project aims to strip away the boundaries between the chamber hall and the honky-tonk, reimagining the traditional string quartet as a vibrant musical canvas for Dolly’s most beloved stories.  A tribute unlike any other seen in Australia, and quite possibly, the world.

We wanted to create an experience to elevate the typical tribute show. A sophisticated reimagining of Dolly’s iconic catalogue, blending Classical, Country, and Bluegrass into a novel auditory experience, and diving into Dolly’s gift for storytelling and her legendary collaborations with greats like Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, Tammy Wynette, Barry Gibb, Emmylou Harris and Miley Cyrus.

Featuring the lush textures of The Crossing Machine string quartet, the warmth of Gary Hobley's acoustic guitar interpretations, the passionate and heartfelt vocal delivery by Debbi Arpini, the rich tapestry of duets between Debbi and singers Michelle Eaton-Reid and Gary Hobley, and the soaring three-part harmonies envoking the kind of pure emotional depth that only music can reach.

Created to cater to both the seasoned classical aficionado and the die-hard Dolly fan, this incredible passion-project aims to prove that great music knows no borders.

It’s heartfelt, it's elegant, and it's unapologetically Dolly.
